This picture was taken in Memphis Tennessee in October, 1939. Marion Wolcott was the photographer. This well lit photo was taken outdoors in an urban area around noon. There are about 5 colored men about 60 years old wearing black suits and white shirts. What catches your eye is the sign that says Hotel Clark. It is a relatively nice business, but for colored people only. There are buildings to the side of it and there is a fair amount of space. The tone is light and positive. People in this picture seem to be talking and enjoying themselves. It is a good photograph overall and if I could ask the photographer two questions about it , they would be:
-a Was there an equal amount of white and colored hotels?
b- How old is the old man with the cane?
The photo here was shot in Durham, North Carolina, in May, 1940. Photographer Jack Delano did a fine job with the lighting and capturaing of an outdoor photo, taken in an urban area. There are about three visible white women walking towards the door that says "White Ladies Only," which is definitely an attention grabber. The ages of them are about 25 years old. Also, the door appears to be the door to some sort of well kept business with good space. There is a light tone with a negative/positive meaning behind it. The women are laughing but the sign is discriminating black women. I would ask the photographer the following two questions:
-a Who were the white women?
-b What did the door lead to?
This photograph was taken by Jack Delano. It was shot in May, 1940 in Durham, North Carolina. The lighitng was good since it was daytime. Also, it was in an urban, outdoor place. The first thing I saw was the colored, 25 year old man, wearing a white hat and shirt. Although there is a sign that says "Colored Waiting Room." There is a train passing by as well, but no other signs of homes or businesses. The tone is somewhat heavy and negative. The man appears to be sad with his head turned down at an angle, and not to mention the discrimination once again. Therefore, the photographer did a swell job in capturing it. I would ask Jack these two questions:
-a Who is the colored man?
-b Did the train carry both colored and white people?

This Photo was taken in Durham, North Carolina November 1939. The lighting of this photo isn't very good because it is darker than a picture would be if it were outside or in the day time. it looks like it is in a urban area because in the glass you can see people and most cafe's wouldn't be in rural areas. it is taken outside of the cafe and it is taken during the night. there are people inside the cafe they look like they are waiters. they are wearing white cloathes. This picture is a Cafe, it looks like it is in good condition and is surrounded but other buildings. The photo is bright and it is black and white. Two questions i would ask are... 1. where is the location of this cafe? 2. is it by any other businesses?
This is a photo of a fish resturant for colored people. It is in Memphis, Tennessee. June 1937. The Sign says. "Bryant's Place Hot Fish for Colored." The photo was taken outside and the lighting is good. the picture is blurry and it is hard to read the sign. It seems like the photo is taken in a rural area because it doesnt seem like there are a lot of people near by. and the road that you can see in the bottom left corner seems like it is just dirt. This photo was taken during the day. There aren't any people that are in this picture. This place is a busines and it seems like it is somewhat new. This picture is in black and white and it is mostly light. Two questions that i have are... 1) are there any other buildings that are around this one? 2) Are there any people around while this photo was taken?
Sign above moving picture theater that reads 'The Gem TheatreExclusive Colored Theatre.'

This photo was take in an urban area because there probablly wouldn't be a theater in rural area. there aren't any people in this photo. This busines is in good condition by the looks of the photo. The photo is light and it has less black than white.two questions that i have are... 1) How big is the building? 2) how many people go there each day?
